Community Empowerment Lab (CEL), based in Uttar Pradesh, India, is the region’s leading global health research collaborative. CEL’s multi-disciplinary team includes physicians, epidemiologists, social anthropologists, psychologists, management specialists, nurses, social workers, and data analysts, among others.
This co-laboratory has provided the opportunity to take the lab to the land, global and local conversations to converge, diverse ideas to meet and mate and co-create solutions at the confluence of science and local wisdom - that are just and lasting. CEL’s researchers have conducted some of the earliest studies in Community Kangaroo Care and demonstrated high impact on neonatal mortality when delivered as part of an integrated package of essential newborn care. CEL is also a research and innovation partner of National Health Mission and Government of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and is UP’s Technical Support Unit for Newborn Health. CEL supports the Government of UP in the scaling of Kangaroo Care across the state.
