Vishwajeet Kumar
CHIEF SCIENTIST, COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT LAB
Vishwajeet Kumar is a physician scientist with 20 years of immersive community and health systems research experience in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India - focusing on newborn survival, maternal health and early child development. Dr. Kumar is Chief Scientist at Community Empowerment Lab (CEL), a member of the Scientific Advisory Board and Governing Council for the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He chairs multiple National Taskforce Implementation Research programs.
Having served as faculty at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Kumar chose to stay embedded within UP and founded the CEL in order to deepen his understanding of the sociocultural and health system context and co-design just and lasting solutions with communities and health stakeholders. He has led several large community and health system studies, ranging from epidemiology, disease surveillance, social-anthropological research, implementation research, and large-scale cluster randomized controlled trials.
