Affordable housing and homelessness: Homelessness in California rose 16.4% since 2018 to over 150,000 individuals and the percentage of severely cost-burdened households is also rising, particularly for middle-income families. A lack of community acceptance of permanent supportive housing and affordable housing has contributed to the slow rate of production and an inability to keep up with the growing demand.
