Civic Life of Cities Lab
My name is Nick Sherefkin and this summer I will be working with the Civic Life of Cities Lab to study how urban nonprofit organizing differs around the world. Using data on the missions and activities of organizations in Australia, Austria, China, Taiwan, and the United States I am measuring how types of work (e.g., advocacy, housing, research, recreation) cluster together and the consequences for nonprofits that combine work in unusual ways. This connects with my dissertation studying the benefits and challenges of ambiguous category membership.
