Nancy Ewen Wang is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the Stanford School of Medicine. Her career has been dedicated to serving vulnerable populations and reducing health disparities locally and globally. Dr. Wang founded the Stanford section in Social Emergency Medicine, a field which uses the perspective of the Emergency Department (ED) to identify patient social needs that contribute to disease, and to develop solutions to decrease health disparities. Her global work spans Chiapas, Mexico; Borneo, Indonesia; and Galápagos, Ecuador. As a medical expert for the Flores Settlement Agreement, she assessed detention conditions for unaccompanied immigrant children.
As a 2021-2022 Stanford Impact Labs Design Fellow, she partnered with community organizations to provide comprehensive social and medical services for asylum seekers in the U.S.
