Reducing HIV and HCV transmission: People who inject drugs (PWID) face a higher risk of acquiring HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Many interventions can reduce this risk, such as testing and linkage to care, substance use disorder treatment, access to sterile injection equipment, behavioral interventions, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, and healthcare access services. Marissa will work with partners at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the CDC to characterize health benefits and costs of integrated service delivery for PWID, drawing on programmatic experience and empirical evidence from Massachusetts, and to inform the optimal mix of services to pursue within local budget constraints.
