James D. Fearon is Theodore and Frances Geballe Professor in Stanford University’s School of Humanities and Sciences, Professor of Political Science, and a Senior Fellow at the Freeman-Spogli Institute for International Studies. His research focuses mainly on armed conflict and political violence.
Fearon is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a program member of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
As a 2021 Scholar in Service, Fearon will work with the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense. Fearon will work closely with U.S. Department of Defense colleagues on a range of policy issues that may include formulation of the National Defense Strategy, nuclear deterrence, and other defense issues in the Western Pacific.
