TRANSFORM Lab

Developing positive ethnic racial socialization in American schools and providing a collectivist decolonised approach to healing racial stress and trauma: In tandem with multiple forces of systemic anti-black oppression (e.g., police brutality, health disparities), Black students are suffering in American schools in a myriad of ways (e.g., opportunity gaps, the school-to-prison nexus, disproportionate life outcomes, psychological health).

I will partner with Dr. Saleem, the co-developer of an  11 session group-based intervention entitled Trauma and Racism Addressed by Navigating Systemic Forms of Oppression with Resilience Methods (TRANSFORM). We identified eight Bay Area-based racial justice community organizations and two schools that have a commitment to helping youth of color build racial cultural pride, self-esteem, and mental health. TRANSFORM is designed to equip youth with skills to name, resist, respond, and thrive in the face of experiences with trauma and racism.
