Survey-based approaches to understanding polarization and populism in the United States: Significant polarization in the United States combined with strong levels of populist support have resulted in many concerns about democratic backsliding or the gradual chipping away of democratic principles. Through a variety of survey-based projects, Paul is testing strategies aimed at safeguarding America's liberal democracy from the pressures of polarization and populism.
