Carmen is a Schmidt Science Fellow affiliated with the AeroAstro Department at Stanford University. She works with Stanford’s Marco Pavone on the foundations of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Her work aims to adapt the mathematical principles of control theory–key in enabling safety in the aerospace industry–to address the unpredictability and risks associated with AI technologies. She is particularly interested in developing safer and more predictable AI systems that are aligned with societal values and is committed to engaging with academia, industry, and policymakers to ensure a safe and equitable transition for all.
