Melanie Morten

Melanie Morten is an Associate Professor of Economics at Stanford University. As a development economist, her research seeks to improve understanding of the migratory processes of low-income individuals by focusing on the effects and the determinants of migration. She co-leads the Guestworker Migration Initiative, a 2023 Stage 1 investment.

As a 2021-22 SIL Design Fellow, Morten conducted a research project focused on the economic impacts of migration, working with partners to design programs and policies able to generate the most significant benefits to the world’s most impoverished people.
