Alex Carr

I am thrilled to welcome Alex Carr to Stanford Impact Labs’ programs and education team. We run multiple programs to help Stanford faculty and students build skills and capabilities to strengthen their public impact scholarship. As our new education program manager, Alex manages our post-doctoral fellowship, the PhD summer collaborative fellowship, and Scholars in Service,  a program that supports Stanford faculty to take a period of leave from the university to work within a public or civic organization.

Each program provides funding, training, and guidance for faculty and students who wish to design and conduct research with  external partners.social problems. Alex will ensure our programs meet the needs of faculty and students and support research that is useful to partners working on the most pressing social problems in our society.

Alex brings experience developing higher education programs and working on government policy and teaching. She started her career in education, teaching in Taiwan, Spain, and Minnesota, before holding roles at Drug Policy Alliance, the U.S. State Department, and Cornerstone Government Affairs. Most recently she was the director of operations at the Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy

“Social science is at its best when put to work for social change,” Alex says. “I’m excited to build the pipeline of impact-focused researchers so that Stanford and universities everywhere can contribute to solving our most pressing social problems.”

Please join me in welcoming Alex to our team. I hope you’ll also reach out to her directly at acarr2@stanford.edu to introduce yourself and share your ideas or questions about our programs.
